Biochemistry I


Modular organization of life, natural selection in organism and molecular level, molecular evolution, physicochemical basis, protein structure, globular proteins, collagen, elastin, keratin, protein folding, structure and topology of nucleic acids, bioinformatics, phylogenetic trees, hemoglobin, enzymes: basic principles and kinetics, blood coagulation, lipids, proteoglycans, DNA replication, genetic code.


Objectives

Students will be familiar with the molecular mechanisms underlying the basic functions of life and will comprehend the emergence, development and the effects from pathological complications, thus assisting them in the accurate diagnosis and the optimal therapeutic treatment.
