Objectives

General objective of the course is to transfer scientific knowledge and information concerning the economic and regional development. The first part, economic development, beyond the efficient allocation of productive resources are scarce and supported their growth over time, it deals also with the necessary economic, social and institutional mechanisms, both public, private, for large scale improvements in living standards, the greatest possible portion of the population. Particular emphasis is given to the different strategies of economic development, which are being examined in the light of the objective pursued and their proposed policy measures for its realization. The second part, regional development, highlights the usefulness of regional science, and the need for regional policy to successfully tackle regional disparity problems exercise at local, European and international level. Jointly tested and developed theories of classical and subsequent theoretical development and the way of selecting policies for drafting development programs. Upon successful completion of this course the student s / he will be able to: Understands and interprets character development problems at the national and global levels. Reads statistical tables with recent data showing growth problems in the modern world. Interprets indicators to facilitate international and longitudinal comparisons of background levels of the world's countries. Recognize patterns and draw conclusions from empirical evidence. Handles economic and regional development problems. It is capable of participation and decision making in planning economic development and combat poverty in today's world
