Science Education


Purpose of the course: to sensitize students on issues related to the concepts of education and training, the general purposes of teaching and teaching objectives, learning theories and their value to the educational process, the differences between the classical theories of learning (the behaviorism, constructivism, costructionism , socio-cultural theory and the theory of activity), emotional intelligence, application of learning theories in mathematics education through learning scenarios and classroom management. Also, the nature of scientific concepts, the scientific method, the value of the experiment in the educational process, modeling, newer theoretical approaches and the use of ICT in teaching practice.


Objectives

Upon completion of the course students will be able to: • Understand the basic concepts of Pedagogy, such as education, training, teaching, learning and education. • Understand that the construction of scientific concepts is a complex process where the processes of scientific method and modeling play a decisive role. • Understand that the learning process is complex and influenced by many factors and be aware of potential problems that may need to face in a classroom. • Be aware of the literature on topics related to alternative ideas of students • Be able to define models, modeling and describe the steps of the scientific method, and report examples from biology. • Apply new knowledge and be able to design a modern teaching intervention (teaching scenario) that takes into account the modern learning theories, the two previous procedures (modeling, scientific method) and the use of ICT in teaching practice. • To consider and evaluate different teaching models. In addition you will have acquired the foundation for dealing with the Educational Psychology, Didactic, Pedagogy, and ICT in education/ science. • Compare different learning theories and see the similarities, differences and the likelihood of their composition. • Be aware of the types of assessment and be able to make an assessement sheet.

Syllabus

1.Clarification of key pedagogical concepts: Conceptual approach of basic concepts of Pedagogy as: Education, learning, teaching, training. 2. General objectives of teaching and teaching objectives: Modern approaches for the general objectives of teaching. What is a learning objective; The utility of learning objectives. 3. Teaching and Learning: Summary accessing the theories of knowledge and learning. Teaching methods. Teaching styles. Techniques. Course of instruction. Evaluative system. 4. Nature of scientific concepts, scientific method, modeling and experimental approach: The construction of scientific concepts (psychoeducational approach), the steps of the scientific method (observation, formulation of hypotheses, hypothesis testing, etc.), modeling, the value of the experiment, modern experimental approaches, use of ICT in the educational process. 5. Newest theoretical approaches: Educational Scenarios 7. Evaluation. 6. Incentives, Fees, Punishment 8. Classroom Management
