Representations of place in texts of the early Modern Greek literature


This course examines modern Greek literary texts from 14th to 17th c. in which the depiction of place has some significant role to play. It focuses on issues such as the praise and the lament of a city, the representation of the underworld, the role of gardens and mountains, and the places that are chosen as settings in Cretan renaissance plays. The aim of the course is that students realize the importance of place depiction in literature depending on the era , the literary genre and the author’s will, and that they practice themselves in commenting literary texts as for place and its function.
