The Archaeology of Human Evolution


The course presents the archaeological and, to a lesser extent, anthropological evidence and questions that pertain to hominin evolution from 6-7 million yeas ago to the appearance and global expansion of modern humans (Homo sapiens) in the last 200000 years. The main part of the course is devoted to the period from the appearance of the first stone tools, ca 2,6 million yeas ago, to the beginning of the Upper Palaeolithic, c. 45000 years ago.
