Educational Policy I: educational administration and teachers’s professionalism

In the introduction are briefly reviewed issues relating to education policy and reform, in order to highlight and understand the complex dimensions in relation to the attempted changes for teachers and their work. The first part is a critical analysis of teaching and the general work of teachers, in order to highlight the particular characteristics and the importance of attempted institutional changes linked to the professionalism of teachers. In the second section are the necessary conceptual clarification of key terms used in the course, such as profession, professionalism, professionalization. Then it outlines the sociological tradition of the theory of professions, in order to understand the contemporary debate about the professionalism of teachers. The next section describes the current debate on the professionalism of teachers, as follows from the theory and research. Based on this discussion examines the relationship between promoting the professionalism of teachers and reconstruction of education management system. Moreover, it becomes critical analysis policies and practices related to the professionalism of teacher education and administration in Greece in recent decades. Knowledge relating to professionalism and teacher professional development issues is helpful for the Department F.P.PS. students and other departments prepared and willing to teach or teach already in education.

Modern Greek education: Education in Crete (1898-1913)

The Cretan State , throughout the course until the union with Greece , showed particular interest in the education of the Cretan people . From 1899 to 1912 published various educational Legislative Decrees and developed significantly Plans Act . The course has as its object the training period , which many called " golden age of Crete" , when the Cretans within the prevailing socio-political conditions ( commission of Prince George, Revolution Therisso residency Alexander Zaimis repealing the residency Cretan parliament , the events until the union with the direct or indirect involvement of the Great Powers , etc. ) engaged with great zeal to redress educational and spiritual regeneration . Specifically studied public and private education and general educational policy of the Cretan State , the main brokers of Public Instruction , types , operation and the number of schools , various regulations , the method of appointment of teachers, curricula and timetables , textbooks the exam teachers and students, prison , school buildings , etc. , the training of other religions ( Muslims , Israelis , etc. ) . At the same time , explore the deeper ideological and social ferment and orientations of the season, both at micro ( intra - educational field) and macro (exo - educational contexts ) . The course presented some unknown aspects of the local educational history and examines issues of the history of education at local , national and international level , while highlighting elements that appear to have contributed to the general development of historical- cultural identity of the island . Crete is known is that period under the supervision of the Great European Powers and receives various influences from Greece , and from Europe .
